Sheilla Noveta Asmaruddin
Sheilla Noveta Asmaruddin is the founder of Blue Sparkle, a non-profit organisation supporting education, established in 2014. Ms Asmaruddin says she has had a passion for teaching since an early age. Her grandfather, a school teacher, told her that the best way to help the community was to start with education.
‘And so that’s how I got inspired, how he inspired me to become what I am today,’ she said.
Ms Asmaruddin took a Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the Queensland University of Technology.
On her return to Indonesia, Ms. Asmaruddin discovered that the position to which she had intended to return had been made redundant. She responded by founding Blue Sparkle, a non-profit which helps train educators and others to improve their research skills and English-language proficiency.
‘I was committed that when I finished my study I was going to contribute - but now I had lost my platform. So how was I going to contribute?’ Ms Asmaruddin said. ‘And so I said hold on, I’m going to create my own platform’.
‘Whoever comes here, I try to explain to them that whatever you do, it’s best that you contribute to the community, and that’s what Blue Sparkle is all about - just helping people brings me happiness,’ Ms Asmaruddin said.
In 2019, to celebrate its fifth anniversary, Blue Sparkle launched a scholarship which supports university students' study in South Sumatra Province.
