Bali Democracy Forum
The Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) is an annual intergovernmental forum focusing on the development of democracy in the Asia-Pacific region. The BDF was established by Indonesia President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2008. Since then the BDF has been attended by representatives from nearly 60 countries, and held its 12th meeting in 2019.
The BDF aims to promote regional and international cooperation through dialogues in which participants share their experiences and best practices related to the principles of democracy, inclusivity, equality, mutual respect and understanding.
Australia and Indonesia share the values that underpin the BDF, and as a result Australia has been a strong supporter of the BDF since its beginning. Australia has attended the BDF every year since its creation in 2008.
