Charles Eaton OBE AFC
Charles Eaton was appointed Australia’s Consul-General in Batavia in 1946 and was in office for much of the period when the Dutch attempted to reassert colonial rule.
Charles Eaton chaired the United Nations Consular Commission, which was charged with monitoring the ceasefire brokered under the Renville Agreement. His requests for Australian military observers to assist with the process led to deployment of the first peacekeeping force to the region in September 1947.
