Hartarto Sastrosoenarto served as Indonesia’s Minister for Industry from 1983-1993 and as Coordinating Minister for Production and Distribution from 1993-1998.

Hartarto Sastrosoenarto AO was an Indonesian politician and one of the first Indonesian students to study in Australia under the government’s Colombo Plan. He was the chair of the Indonesian Student Association of New South Wales, and later its national body.

Hartarto Sastrosoenarto served as Indonesia’s Minister for Industry from 1983-1993 and as Coordinating Minister for Production and Distribution from 1993-1998. 

He was the first international student to receive the University of New South Wales’ Alumni Association Award for Achievement and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1993. 

In 1992 he was appointed an Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia.
