Dr Muhamad Chatib Basri is an Indonesian economist who has served as Minister for Finance and Chair of the Investment Coordinating Board of Indonesia. He specialises in international trade, macroeconomics and political economy and is a senior lecturer at the University of Indonesia.

After completing his undergraduate degree in Indonesia, Dr Basri travelled to Australia for postgraduate study at the Australian National University (ANU), where he completed his PhD in Economics in 2001.

Dr Basri has held a wide variety of academic positions in Indonesia, Australia and around the world. In addition to positions at the University of Indonesia and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, he was the Thee Kian Wie Distinguished Visiting Professor at the ANU in 2016-17.
