The Australian Consulate-General in Bali was established in 1981 to meet the demands of the many Australian travellers who make Bali their destination of choice. Almost 1.1 million Australians visit Bali every year, and each year the Consulate handles over 400 consular cases, 900 passport applications and provides close to 1000 notarial services.

The Consulate-General is one of the busiest places in Australia's diplomatic footprint. The Consulate has witnessed marriages, been part of television shows and served as the focal point for shared grief and remembrance. The Consulate is a close-knit family of 19 staff who have helped Australians during natural disasters, terrorist attacks and often been the first point of contact for those who have suffered personal tragedies.

Consulate staff regularly visit hospitals, prisons, courtrooms and even the occasional night club, all in an effort to help Australians get home safely. Two of the Consulate’s Bali-based staff were awarded Medals of the Order of Australia in recognition of their outstanding service during the Bali Bombings.

The ability to help people in their time of need is a responsibility the Consulate does not take lightly. It has seen some of the best aspects of humanity from Indonesia and Australia. The Consulate-General’s bonds to the island of Bali and its people are stronger than ever.
