Fendi Gunawan Liem
Fendi Gunawan Liem is a social entrepreneur and founder of the renewable power company PT Selaras Daya Utama (SEDAYU). In partnership with the Indonesian Government, SEDAYU has developed more than 150 solar power projects throughout Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua.
SEDAYU has received awards from the governments of the Netherlands, Switzerland and Norway for its contribution to the development of renewable energy in Indonesia, as well as from the Asia Power Awards and the International Energy Globe Awards, which are known as ‘Nature's Nobel Prize.’
Mr Liem developed a passion for renewable energy while completing his Computer Science degree at the University of NSW in Sydney.
‘My time in Australia – studying at UNSW and traveling to outback Australia – is one of the main reasons I started the company that successfully developed more than 150 solar power projects throughout Indonesia, mainly in Papua. Indonesia has always been referring to solar power projects in Europe and North America despite sharing more similarities with Australia. Together with my Australian counterparts, we aim to improve the collaboration between Indonesia and Australia in the solar power sector,’ he said.
